Morocco is located at the northwest corner of the Saharan platform, it is surrounded by the moving plates of the Mediterranean Sea to the North and the Atlantic Ocean to the West.
Indeed, during its long geological history conditioned by this hinge position, between the African, European and American continents, several orogenic cycles have succeeded and contribute, by its geodynamic context and its magnitude, to shaping the major structural domains from Morocco.
From the South to the North of Morocco, there are four structural domains:

  • Saharan domain
  • Atlas domain
  • Mesetian domain
  • Rifain domain
